We live in chaotic, tumultuous times. I don’t think anyone paying attention can deny that. It’s like the proverbial Chinese curse: “May you live in interesting times!” These are interesting times indeed. We live in clown world. It seems like the world if falling apart and going insane. It is easy to be anxious — and anxiety is not just an individual problem, but a communal one. Anxiety can become a social contagion that spreads through an entire body of people. We can pass anxiety from one person to another just like the flu.
As Christians who trust in the Lord Jesus, we never have any reason to be anxious or fearful. This is what you need to know as a child of God: You have absolutely no reason to worry or fret. This is true if you are looking at the world around you or the details of your own life. You should never be anxious; you have no reason to be anxious. We should banish anxiety from our lives altogether. The world is always a perfectly safe place for the Christian because no trial can befall you outside of God’s sovereign plan to do you good. God will not give you a smidgen of suffering that is not for your good, to mature you and train you in righteousness.
You can live a peace-filled, anxiety-free life. You can live fearlessly. Let your worries drive you to worship and prayer. Let your fears lead you to the heavenly throne room. God’s Word calls upon us to turn anxiety into prayer and when we do so, anxiety is transformed into peace. This peace can spread amongst people as well. Gathering with God’s people relieves us of anxiety because it a weekly corporate reminder that Jesus is on the throne and all is right with the world. We share peace and joy with one another as we pray and sing. The nations may rage, but Jesus reigns. God laughs at those who attempt to dethrone Jesus and we can laugh as well.
