The rise of socialist Muslim pro-LGBTQ Democrat Zohran Mamdani to the place of apparent lock for NYC mayor raises all kinds of interesting questions about what ties together contemporary progressivism. Set aside the oddity of a city that saw firsthand how destructive Islam can be (has 9/11 been forgotten?) now choosing a Muslim to rule over them. Our focus here is on the trajectory of progressivism — what’s it’s been, what it is, what it is becoming.
If you looking for a coherent understanding of progressivism, there really isn’t one. Progressivism really is a bundle of contradictory identities. Muslims are supposed to oppress women, not promote feminism. LGBTQ and Muslims are deadly enemies in other parts of the world. The progressive base is mainly white and wealthy (and female), but supports anti-white, critical race theory policies. While progressives like to tout their compassion and care for the poor, their actual policies, like going soft on crime and defunding the police disproportionately hurt the lower classes. The wealthy leverage their support for progressive causes as a kind of virtue signaling to make themselves feel morally superior, even as their policies harm the most vulnerable. Because they are rich, they are generally isolated from the worst effects of their own policy preferences. Mamdani’s own identity is a patchwork quilt of intersectionality, which is what catapulted him to presumptive mayor of NYC. He has no real skills of qualifications that prove his competency. He is just an avatar for all that progressives like to promote. His identity will continually shape-shift to match the mood of the moment.
But that brings us back to the question: What ties together the current progressive coalition? What knots together this apparently contradictory bundle of beliefs, positions, and identities? The tie that binds all of these disparate identities (Muslim, socialist, FLGBTQ, etc.) together is Marxist resentment and hatred of America – and, of course, behind that, rejection of the God of the Bible.
We used to be able to distinguish the culture war from the Spiritual war in various ways. Many of the political and cultural issues that divided us did not rise to the level of clear-cut good vs. evil. But that’s no longer the case. Progressivism is not sold out to evil. It’s in full blown rebellion against nature and nature’s God. It completely rejects the Christian heritage that made Western civilization great. The battle against progressivism is the battle of of lives because its a battle for our lives. Everything is at stake in it. Every single culture war battle is now a proxy war for the Spiritual war. Progressives have basically become the mirror image of all that good and right and true. We’re not clown world anymore. The clowns have been replaced by demons.

Of course, progressives do not frame their belief system in terms of hatred for Christian faith. That would undermine their attempts to seduce weak and feeble-minded believers into supporting their pseudo-compassionate, toxically empathetic positions. So they hide their real motivation. But do not be deceived: The battle facing us today is the historic Christian faith vs. demonic progressivism. Everything progressives hate is in some way a stand in for Christian faith. It’s a proxy war all the way down.

Think of the modern left: it’s mainly hedonistic Boomers, women who went crazy because of SSRIs or whose promiscuity turned them bitter, minorities and illegal immigrants who hope to get free stuff from the government in exchange for votes, sexual perverts and those who want to celebrate the perversion, and otherwise a collection of people who think they will somehow benefit from the destruction of America — particularly American freedom, prosperity, and our Christian legacy. To be ruled by these people is to let the inmates have control of the asylum.

This is a pretty good summary of the Marxist-Muslim Mamdani and everything else today’s Democrats stand for:
“For at least 70 years, certain (most) Democrats have possessed a sensibility that says “The USA is evil, and the ways of our adversaries are better.” They say this despite the obvious fact that those same adversaries create evil and immoral societies that in many cases stand absolutely against the values those same Democrats claim to embrace. It’s a sort of self-loathing cultural suicide cloaked in illusory good intentions.
In years past, this evidenced itself in the Democrat embrace of Communism and the Soviet Union. Despite the obviously extravagant failings of the Communist economic system and the utter tyranny and loss of personal liberty Communism entailed, many Democrats remained sympathetic to the causes and ideals of Communism and the Soviet Union—a nation that sought to destroy the very freedoms that gave those Democrats life.
Somewhere along the way in the 1990s/early 2000s, after the Berlin Wall fell, this switched to sympathy and longing for Islamism. After 9/11, “Why do they hate us?” was answered with “because we are evil.” It was stunning to observe a Democrat Party steeped on rights for women and LGBTQ+ people embrace a religion that organizes society in such a way that women are chattel property that cannot be seen uncovered in public and LGBTQ+ people are executed for the crime of their sexual practices.
Communism.
Islamism.
These are two ideologies that are anathema to freedom, prosperity and liberty, and stand against everything Americans have fought and died for. But that sense of societal self-loathing was too powerful, and now we are seeing something brand new. With Zohran Kwame Mamdani soon to be mayor of our largest city, we are seeing for the very first time the confluence of Communism and Islamism in a single, pernicious, incredibly destructive anti-American ideology that promises nothing less than poverty, intolerance, tyranny and terror. This is the America too many Democrats have longed for.
Were it not for the fact that I love my country so much, I might feel schadenfreude when the wealthy white female Democrat “elites” of NYC like Cynthia Nixon suddenly find themselves desperate for meat and bread while chained to a bedside table. Think I’m exaggerating? That just means you have not been to the parts of the world I have been to. NYC, come to your senses before it’s too late.”

This is an excellent article on the stupidity and hypocrisy of white progressives promoting a socialist candidate for mayor of NYC. Rufo and MacIntyre are both correct – the left’s progressive coalition of feminists, Muslims, sexual perverts, socialists, and so on, is held together by envy and resentment, rooted in hatred for America and fatherhood. It succeeds precisely by appealing to those who want to make America and/or fathers the “bad guy” in the story (whether that story is considered at the personal or civilizational level). Of course, behind the hatred of America and patriarchs is a hatred for the Christian God. That’s the primal hatred, the source of all other hatreds.

Obviously, Limbaugh’s main point here is to expose the double standard with regard to immigration. What progressives have done with immigration is not a form of hospitality to the stranger, it’s welcoming foreign invaders in an attempt to remake the electorate and redefine our nation’s identity and culture.
A couple more notes. Biblically, when immigrants enter a new land, they are always expected to assimilate, and assimilation is measured in two keys ways: language and laws.
First, if your nation comes to be filled with people speaking another language, it is a sign of God’s judgment (Deuteronomy 28:49, Isaiah 28:11). National identity in the Bible has a linguistic core.
Second, Torah required immigrants to live as guests. They had to abide by the religion and way of life of the land they entered (Exodus 12:49, Numbers 15:29; cf. Deuteronomy 13:1ff). There was to be one law for the homeborn and the stranger in the land. There were other restrictions in certain cases. For example, in the case of immigrants coming from nations that had a history of enmity with Israel, various citizenship rights could be restricted or withheld for several generations to allow time for the immigrant to prove he was assimilating (cf. Dueteronomy 23:3-4).
These are wise principles that any coherent and self-respecting nation would take seriously and apply. Most nations do. Only Western progressives reject these principles — and of course, they reject all kinds of other wise and natural principles found in Biblical law as well, including God’s design for sexuality and family, work and prosperity, etc. This is because for progressives, rejecting God’s truth is their whole project. Progressivism is just the mirror image of God’s law. Progressivism is really just humanism — the inversion of all that is good, true, and beautiful. What to know what progressives will do about an issue? Look what God says about it, and be assured they will do the exact opposite.

Contemporary progressivism is a coalition of perverts — specifically a coalition of anti-Christian, anti-American, anti-freedom, anti-Western civilization, anti-family perverts.
What positive, workable, and useful policy ideas do progressives offer? Kamala Harris’ best idea in her presidential campaign — no tax on tips — was shamelessly stolen from Trump. Other than promising taxpayer-paid surgeries for transgenders in the military, what did she actually offer? More abortions? More sexual perverts in positions of power? More wealth redistrubution, with the ever expanding government bureaucracy (aka the swamp) taking a ever larger cut? More illegal immigrants, who have no intention to assimilate? The left is a complete trainwreck. Wokeness is an acid that will eventually eat through everything if not stopped.
I have been a staunch critic of the hapless Republicans for a long time. I hold no illusions about the Republican party and its deep-set problems. But there is no equivalence, moral or otherwise, between the right and left.
